How to Get the Best Deals in a Pawn Shop

If you are shopping in a pawn shop it probably means you are the type of person who likes to get great deals. Pawn shops feature gently used items ranging from fine jewelry to tools which means no matter who you are or what you are looking for you can probably find it at a discounted price in a pawn shop.

Savvy shoppers know how to get even better deals than the already discounted prices pawn shops offer.  Like any other retail store pawn shops are always running promotions or sales. Oftentimes these sales are cyclical. Just like your favorite retail store holds an anniversary sale or a labor day sale, pawn shops do the same thing.

Keep track of when these sales are and what type of items usually go on sale then and you will score incredible deals. To make sure you don’t miss the best sales sign up for your favorite pawn shop’s email blasts or follow their Facebook page. Sometimes you’ll get a bonus discount just for doing this and you’ll be able to keep track of sales.

Another way to get great deals is negotiate. Pawnbrokers are experts at assessing the value of the items on their shelves. They know what fair market value is and they know what they paid for an item.  While certain items may be non-negotiable it is certainly okay to try to get the price down a bit.

Some pawnbrokers even enjoy the negotiation process a bit. Finally, if you are looking for a very specific item that you don’t see on the store shelves don’t be afraid to talk to the pawnbroker. Remember that people come in to pawn shops every day with new items to sell and the exact item you need could turn up an hour after you leave. If a pawnbroker knows they have a customer for a particular item they’ll love the idea of a quick turnaround and would most likely be willing to reach out to you.

I purchased a guitar amplifier from Best Collateral. I walked out of the store with an amp in perfect condition for nearly half the price listed online and a new found respect for my local pawn shop!
